Kano Guber: APC Drags NNPP, INEC To Election Tribunal

From Maduabuchi Nmeribeh, Kano

The All Progressive Congress, (APC) has concluded plans to challenge the outcome of March 18 Kano governorship election in the Kano State Governorship election tribunal.

The party’s decision is coming after its gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, penultimate Wednesday, congratulated the governor-elect, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), shortly after he received Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

But the Spokesperson of APC in Kano, Ahmed Aruwa, on Saturday, hinted that the party has directed its legal team to commence legal proccesses, challenging the outcome of that election which gave the NNPP governorship candidate victory, as declared by INEC.

He said Kano APC is suing NNPP, its gubernatorial candidate, and INEC.

According to him, “the Kano APC faults the results declared by INEC, which confirmed the candidate of the NNPP as the winner of the governorship polls.”

He added that the declaration of the winner of the election as announced by INEC contravenes the provisions of the laws regulating the overall conduct of the election.

Aruwa disclosed that the state party hierarchy has directed its legal organ to proceed to challenge the outcome of the elections before the state governorship election petition tribunal sitting at Miller Road Court complex.

According to him, even though the APC governorship candidate, Gawuna, has congratulated the governor-elect, “the APC is of the strong conviction that the declaration exercise is in violation of the laid down electoral laws, which prompted the decision by APC to proceed in search for legal redress before the court with competent jurisdiction.”
