The Chief Medical Director,Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital,Enugu,Dr Monday Igwe,has explained that all activities and administration of the institution are in tandem with Public service rules(PSR),of which due process are strictly adhered to.
Dr Monday Igwe made the explaination to news men in Enugu on Tuesday,July 4,while reacting to unverified news report published in some social media platforms,claiming that the School of Post Basic Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing was shut down under his directives.
The Chief Medical Director,Dr Igwe affirmed that there is no crisis in the institution,stating the management has met and corrected the misdeeds of some disgruntled elements,who wanted to bend the rules of appointment of new headship of the School of Post Basic Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing without compljance to the Council regulations for appointment of Head of Nursing training institutions in Nigeria.
His words,”There was never a time the school was shut down by the Medical Director as portrayed in the publications,hence there could not have arisen the issue of directives from federal ministry of health to re open the school. The school has full accreditation to tfain 50 psychiatric nurses per session that runs for 18 months. The school cannot admit beyond her quota and one wonders where the 700 students emanated from”.
He stated further,”The day to day running of the hospital follows strictly Public service rules(PSR) and financial regulations as set out by the federal government of Nigeria and supervisory agencies. All employments are monitored by Federal Ministry of Health,Office of Head of Service of the Federation,Federal Character and Board of Management. The Medical Director ensures that due process is strictly followed in both employment and contract awards. The records are there for everyone to verify”.
He desctibed the social media publications as mere imaginations without basis sponsored by those who are bent on occupying positions,they are not qualified for.
Notwithstanding,Dr Monday Igwe,who has been re appointed for a second term as Cbief Medical Director of Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital Enugu based on performance, disclosed that his management is on cause to establish a branch of the hospital in each of the 15 senatorial districts in the South East zone.
He anniunced that the hospital won one hundred million naira from ECOWAS COMMISSION GRANT to expand her drug rehabilitation project. Also recorded high number of passes in residency examinations and school of Nursing external examinations, upgraded over 200 staff among others,as some of the achievements of his administration.
