There was confusion on Thursday at the Federal Ministry of Works, Abuja, as the minister, Chief David Umahi, reportedly locked out the staff.
The minister was said to have prevented workers who came to work late from gaining access to the ministry.
Few minutes after the gate was opened, the workers, comprising the Housing and Works Ministry, refused to enter the premises.
Instead, they occupied the entrance gate, insisting that the minister must come out and address them.
They also alleged that Umahi stopped engineers and directors from doing their work, and has been flouting public service rules since his appointment.
According to the aggrieved staff who refused to officially speak to journalists, but were discussing in low tines and anonymously that, “the minister brings in consultants to run the affairs of the ministry”
The protesting staff were also chanting “Umahi Must Go”, complaining that they reside far away and there was no way they could come to work early.
Reacting, the Director Information, Press and Public Relations, Blessing Lere-Adam denied the development, insisting there was no issue at all.
She was not specific on what informed the workers’ anger, but only said “the issue has been resolved”.
