MoD partners Humanitarian Affairs Ministry to improve lives of military retirees, serving personnel

The Ministry of Defence is set to partner with Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation on the implementation of “Project Nigeria”.

The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar made this known when the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Idu paid him a courtesy visit at the Ship House in Abuja.

This is disclosed in a press release by Attari M. Hope, Ag. Director, Press & Public Relations of the Ministry of Defence.

According to the press release, “Badaru said that “Project Nigeria” would give hope to retirees and further boost the morale of personnel that are on the field.

“Badaru appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for remembering veterans and fallen heroes who paid the Supreme price for serving the nation.

“While speaking on Project Nigeria, Badaru noted that on 1st of October, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said that through the National Safety Net, fifteen Million Nigerians will receive N25, 000 each for three months, adding that this initiative will expand to cover the vulnerable, pensioners, veterans as well as widows of fallen heroes.

“He assured the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation of the unalloyed support and dedication of the Nigerian Armed Forces to ensure the implementation of Project Nigeria.

“Earlier in her remarks, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Idu said that the Project Nigeria is one of the many initiatives of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.

“Betta Idu said the purpose for visiting the Minister is to seek the Ministry buy in and support in the area of security in order to ensure a seamless implementation of the initiative.

“On his part, the Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Maj. Gen. AM Jibril rtd said that injecting the Nigerian Legion into the programme, under the supervision of the Ministry of Defence was a welcome idea that would give hope to the veterans and their families.

“He stated that data of would be beneficiaries is being gathered after which will be sent through Ministry of Defence to the Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Ministry.”
