INEC, Judiciary murdered democracy in 2023, says ex-PSC Chair, Okeke

*Warns against excluding the Igbo in Nigeria’s governance

The former chairman of Police Service Commission ((PSC), Chief Simon Okeke (Ochendo Amichi has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the judiciary of brutally murdering democracy at the 2023 general elections in Nigeria,

He also raised the alarm over excluding the Igbo, one of the major tribes in Nigeria from governance of the country.

This was contained in a release he made available to some journalists recently.

Proving his point, he said democracy was murdered by the INEC and judiciary by coming up with verdicts that were contrary to the people’s opinion, just as he congratulated those who were adjudged to have won the election and also commemorated those who have won but not adjudged both presidential, governorship and other levels. While assuring the people that justice would be done to 

democracy that had been battered, Okeke stated that May 29th general election in 2023 in terms and purposes was believed to had been won by the candidate of Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, but regretted that those whom the constitution gave the power to decide, decided otherwise.

He therefore, advised Igbos (Ndigbo) and lovers of Ndigbo to mark 29th May every year as a day to remember when  democracy was murdered. 

Reminding Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu promised to continue from where his predecessor stopped, the former PSC chairman noted that the past government favoured Fulanis and this present one, according to him appears to favour the Yorubas, pointing out that excluding a major tribe from governance would be a dangerous trend which must be revised.

Calling for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, he stated that Kanu was not carrying any arm, but was only agitating for a particular cause and shouldn’t be tagged a terrorist. 

To that he drew Mr President’s, since the judiciary, according to him had put a final full stop to his release, saying that it will be catastrophic, should he die in the prison for lack of treatment.

He commended the efforts of Anambra State government dor peace and security in the state, the Ochendo Amichi admitted relative peace in Southeast during and after the festive period, just as he commended the efforts of Southeast governors to contend the insecurity situation in the zone.

He further expressed the belief that security will be stronger if the constitution will be amended to give each governor right  to have state police, Okeke advised Southeast governors to cooperate and secure their zones.

Speaking on the area of fuel subsidy removal, be said that it was the right act, but was wrongly timed, asking what the president put in place removing the subsidy.
