From Celestine Ihejirika, Jalingo

The decision of Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State to introduce the Taraba Education Students Identification System (TESIS), has continued to receive wide ovation by stakeholders in the state and nation generally.

Prominent among those who expressed their views in an interview with our correspondent in Jalingo Thursday included the NUT boss in the state Comrade Nathan Solomon, who also doubles as vice-chairman of the Nigerian labor congress (NLC); the state chairman, Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) Comr. Sule Abasu; cross section of students, as well as the political class, described the move as “positive steps in a right direction”.

On its part, the NUT leader Comm. Solomon said the governor has changed the ugly narrative in education sector in Taraba state.

According to him, “the recent measure will go a long way to curb inadequacies/challenges on pupils/students data collection in the state, thereby providing accurate information on education data, including teachers data for optimum planning in the years ahead”.

Solomon stressed that the current identification was not designed to victimize any teacher in the classrooms, but will offer opportunity to design accurate data that will push education to an enviable height, as well as assisting the NUT in the state on accurate number of both pupils and teachers.

According to him, “we are in full support of Governor Kefas; we are hundred percent solidly behind him and we will make sure the system works.

“We are grateful he has given us hope and direction in education so that the state will move to the next level”.

To Comrd. Abasu state leader ASUSS said Gov. Kefas has demonstrated clear passion for education judging by the recent flag–off of TESIS Program in the state.

Comrd. Abasu added that what the governor needed was total commitment and support by Tarabans to enable him actualize his dreams on a laudable initiative on education for the advancement of the state.

He expressed optimism that the education policy of Governor Kefas has come to stay in the state and that all hands must be on deck to enable him to succeed.

Meanwhile, prominent politicians and a cross section of primary/ secondary school pupils/students interviewed shortly after the program hails governor Kefas for initiating such a measure which according to them will move education forward.

An opposition prominent politician of one of the political parties in the state who craved for animosity told our correspondent that the governor has lived above board and it is high time other political parties in the state should come together and support him.
