Recent utterances by some political gladiators of Benue state origins at the national assembly in respect to security matters in the state, political management, and allocation of the state resources has become a matter for concern to the government.
The Chief Press Secretary to the governor of Benue State, Sir Tersoo Kula, in a statement decried particularly, the “devious plans by some forces in Abuja comprising some members of the National Assembly to destabilize Gov. Hyacinth Alia’s administration”.
The statement particularly noted the prevaricative assertions by Sen. Abba Moro that the present insecurity in Benue state is a fall out from the state assembly’s dissolution of the Local Government Councils.
“Our suspicion is that, Sen. Moro may be discreetly cooking crooked plans to destabilize the state to justify his assertion”, the statement pointed out.
The statement described Hon. Philip Agbese’s allegation of the governor’s undiscerning use of over N3bn security votes to the state as unfounded.
“We make bold to state unequivocally here that security vote for Benue has never risen to N1bn under Rev. Fr. Alia’s administration. So, Agbese will surely be provided an avenue for him to prove beyond reasonable doubt such unfounded allegations against His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia and the Government of Benue State”.
The statement further said the government is appalled by media insinuations that a letter was sent to the herdsmen to returned to Benue state for open grazing.
“His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia made an unambiguous pronouncement at the burial of the late Tor Sankera only last Saturday that the Open Grazing Prohibiting and Ranches Law 2017 of Benue State is still alive and shall be enforced fully. Therefore, His Excellency has not through directives or by himself sent a letter to any group including Herdsmen to come into the state to contravene the law in question”, the statement said.
