NUJ names Gov. Bago as Grand Patron, eulogises his developmental strides

The national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has bestowed on the Governor of Niger State, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, honour as Grand Petron of the Niger State Council of the Union.

National President of the NUJ, Chief (Dr.) Chris Isiguzo, who bestowed the honour on the Governor said the union decided to confer him the honour in recognition of his giant strides since he assumed office last May. 

Isiguzo who stressed the symbolism of the award, noted that the award was not just for photo session, but to tap on the consciousness of the noble ideals that define the profession, as well as appreciate the governor’s achievements in the short period.

He described the governor as one who not only promotes press freedom, access to information but who believes in the vitality of informed an populace.

He ommended the visionary leadership of the governor as envisioned in education, healthcare, infrastructure and agriculture, stressing that the governor has demonstrated that he is a beacon of hope for upcoming generation. 

Isiguzo noted that the investiture portrays Gov. Bago’s dexterity and deep relationship with journalists, as examplified by his profound sense of duty and service to humanity.

“Today, we gather not merely to bestow a title or honor upon a leader, but to celebrate a partnership—a partnership forged in the crucible of shared values, mutual respect, and a collective vision for a better tomorrow. 

“Today, as we honor Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago with the title of Grand Patron of the Niger State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, we bear witness to the convergence of leadership, vision, and unswerving commitment to the noble ideals that define our profession.

“In his steadfast advocacy for press freedom, access to information, and the protection of journalists, Governor Bago embodies the essence of enlightened leadership—a leadership that recognizes the indispensable role journalists play in the fabric of our democracy and the vitality of an informed citizenry.

“As we confer upon Governor Bago the esteemed title of Grand Patron, let us acknowledge not only his achievements in governance but the transformative impact of his vision on the lives of the people of Niger State. His visionary leadership, evidenced by the remarkable strides in infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and governance, serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for generations to come.

“May your tenure as Grand Patron be marked by continued collaboration, mutual respect, and shared dedication to the values that bind us together as journalists, advocates, and champions of progress. 

“And may the legacy of your leadership endure as a testament to the enduring power of courage, compassion, and conviction in the face of adversity,” Isiguzo said.

The Governor while responding, dosclosed that President Bola Tinubu will be in the state next week to inaugurate the Agro Processing Zone near the Minna Airport, noted that it is the fist of its kindin the country.

The governor urged journalistsacross the country to adopt deliberate policy to promote the unity and progress of Nigeria.

He called on the media to uphold the best of ethics and professionalism to change the narrative where members of the public now seem to rely more on social than the traditional media. 

The state government had procured 2,000 tractors and other agro-processing equipments, yo be set up to process and add value to agro produce in the state.
