A group, Global Peace Movement International, UK has called on the leadership of the Nigerian military, paramilitary and other state actors in the security affairs of the country to close ranks not to allow militancy return to the Niger-Delta region.
At a press conference in Regency Hyatt Hotel in Central London, President General of the group, Dr Mike Uyi, emphasized the need for security forces to work together to maintain peace and stability in the region
Dr Uyi while citing the devastating impact of previous militant activities on the region and the country as a whole, urging security agencies to beam its searchlights on individuals or companies who might want to truncate the peace being enjoyed in the region.
He cautioned that any attempt to pit community leaders in the region against each other should be discouraged
Particularly, Uyi expressed concern that the current situation where NNPCL is trying to close up some contracts and give it to only one person, without costing the inherent violence the redundancy will cause to the entire 9 and 30 kilometres with different tribal groups and ownership crisis. This act by the NNPC is not accepted and should not be encouraged.
He explained that the situation is calm and peaceful with the current arrangements with each group knowing their boundaries.
It also said stakeholders in the oil sector, should strategise on improving the living standards of host communities.
