Otti’s political journey under scrutiny as analyst questions Labour Party’s loyalty

By Mercy Aikoye

Political analyst Uzokwe Ndubuisi has criticized Labour Party supporters for their double standards in responding to Deputy Speaker Benjamin Okezie Kalu’s invitation to Abia State Governor Alex Otti to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ndubuisi accused LP supporters of “selective amnesia” for overlooking Otti’s history of switching political parties. He questioned why they didn’t criticize Otti’s past party switches but attacked Kalu for his invitation.

Otti had previously run for governor under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in 2015 and 2019, joined the APC in 2020, and then moved to the Labour Party, where he won the governorship.

Ndubuisi pointed out that Otti’s political journey was marked by frequent party switches, yet LP supporters didn’t condemn his actions. Instead, they praised him for strengthening the Labour Party.

The analyst also highlighted Otti’s aggressive campaigning in Imo State, where he declared the APC’s time was over and urged Governor Hope Uzodinma to prepare his handover note. Ndubuisi criticized Otti’s campaign tactics as indecent and disrespectful.

Ndubuisi wondered why LP supporters didn’t criticize Otti’s actions in Imo State but attacked Kalu for his invitation. He suggested that LP supporters were guilty of double standards and selective amnesia.

The analyst questioned whether Otti would show the same commitment to the Labour Party if he were to campaign in Edo State, hinting at potential future controversies. He emphasized the need for political loyalty and consistency.

Ndubuisi concluded by quoting Franklin Raj, emphasizing that “selective amnesia” allows individuals to remember only what suits their narrative. The article sparked discussions on political loyalty and consistency in Nigeria’s shifting political landscape.
