President Bola Tinubu is expected to meet with the President of the People’s Republic of China in Beijing by the first week of September, for discussions expected to be of immense benefits to Nigeria.
Presidential spokesman, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, announced this on Tuesday, although he did not disclose specific fate of departure yet.
He explained that Tinubu would engage in series of meetings with his Chinese counterpart and 10 Chief Executive Officers of different major corporations with net worth of about $3 trillion, across several economic sectors, for the economic benefit of Nigeria.
Ngelale said that President Tinubu would also engage in bilateral agreements and sign Memoranda of Understand, MoUs as well as agreements to deepen corporations in various sectors, including the green economy, blue economic development, national planning cooperation among others.
According to him, issues of national, regional and international security will also be part of the discussions, adding that other areas of concern in his visit would be on the completion of Abuja to Ibadan segment of the Lagos-Kaduna standard railway.
The presidential spokesman stated that issues on information technology, refining, oil and gas, satellite technology would be on front burner during the trip, expected to last some days.
“This engagement is expected to yield very tangible, immediate and future dividends for the sake of the Nigerian economy and the benefit of the Nigerian people and the President is placing a premium on deliverables, ensuring that this is not a talk-shop, but that this is something that will yield results for our people, justifying any expenditure that is made during this trip,” Ngelale added.
The President’s trip comes amid anxiety and confusion created by the recent seizure of Nigerian presidential aircraft in France over a court judgement debt involving a Chinese firm and Ogun State government.
