Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has called on candidates and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure the party secures an all-encompassing victory in the upcoming October 19 local government elections.
The governor made the call during the official flag-off of the APC state-wide campaign held at the Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja on Thursday.
The event witnessed the participation of party leaders from the three senatorial districts of the state.
A statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, said Governor Ododo used the occasion to highlight the achievements of the APC-led administration in Kogi State, particularly the successful implementation of the 40% affirmative action for women in elective positions.
He noted that the party had allocated all vice-chairmanship slots and at least four councillorship positions in each of the 21 local government areas to women.
Additionally, the governor praised the appointment of Ward and Local Government Special Assistants, stating that these efforts had effectively brought governance closer to the grassroots.
The governor urged the people of Kogi to remain united and peaceful in their support of the APC government, assuring them that the state’s resources would continue to be managed to alleviate poverty and build on the progress made in various sectors of the economy.
“Our state is blessed with abundant mineral resources and human capital to lift us out of poverty. We must work hard to consolidate on the solid foundation laid by my predecessor and the immediate pasty administration in different sectors by supporting the APC.
“Come October 19, 2024, I urge you to come out and vote enmasse for all chairmanship candidates of the APC in the 21 local government areas and our councillorship candidates in the 239 electoral wards in the state for us to continue to build on the success we have achieved already as a state under the APC, ” the governor said.
Governor Ododo also commended President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s efforts in tackling the nation’s economic challenges, pledging that Kogi State would continue to align with policies aimed at reducing hardship among Nigerians.
In his remarks, APC State Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, praised Governor Ododo for his outstanding performance, which he said had significantly boosted the party’s campaign efforts. Bello urged party members to engage in door-to-door campaigns to guarantee a sweeping victory for the APC in the local government polls.
The event also featured the defection of Honourable Salman Idris, representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the APC.
The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of party flags to the 21 APC chairmanship candidates by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, amid a large turnout of party members from across the state.
