IMSU students, lecturers defy ASUU indefinite strike order

Despite directives by the national leadership of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU for an ongoing indefinite strike following the failure of the Federal Government to address their welfare issues, Imo State University (IMSU) administration has defied the group order by conducting examinations for students of Law faculty on Thursday.

Recalled that the ASUU strike has led to the suspension of academic activities across all the affiliate Universities in Nigeria , aiming to address critical issues such as inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, and unmet agreements with the state government.

It’s noted that the final-year law students of the University threatened the University management over what they alleged as compromised violation of their academic rights.

It’s also pertinent to note that ASUU’s stance is clear: no academic activities should proceed among its affiliates until their rifts with the Federal Government are Meanwhile, the law faculty’s choice to hold examinations have left many students feeling shortchanged and belittled

According Mr. Godwin Ejike One student in the Faculty of Social Sciences, “It’s unfair to hold exams under these circumstances; we deserve a proper academic environment.
We’re concerned about our grades and the integrity of our education.”

Ejike pointed out that most of the students are now feeling as if they are inferior to their peers in Law Faculty, noting that all students pay similar fees and face the same challenges.

In light of these developments, students are advocating for a dialogue between university administration and ASUU representatives to address their concerns and seek a resolution that honors both academic standards and student rights.
