Wike threatens to blacklist contractor handling Apo – Wassa road

By Daniel Tyokua

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has threatened to blacklist the contractor handling the Apo -Wassa road, known as Outer Southern Expressway II (OSEX ) over underperformance.

Wike who was visibly angry stated this while inspecting the road on Friday, saying his administration would not hesitate to blacklist any non-performing contractors.

He explained that, “We don’t have any relationship with non-performing contractors. Of course, any body knows our position, that if you don’t perform, we kick you out.

“There is no sentiments about it. Whether you are indigenous contractor or foreign contractor, we don’t care. We are concerned about the work.

“If you do the work we go along with you, if you don’t do the work we kick you out, and we make you to pay for it; and there will be sanctions.

“You can’t just collect our money and think that we will just ask you to go, No. When we kick you out, we make you pay for it”

He made it clear that any contractor failing to meet the terms of their contract will be expelled from projects in the FCT.

The minister noted that despite CGC being a respected company that is behind the project, he was dissatisfied with its work progress.

“I went to inspect the site and did not see adequate equipment present when I came. I trust that they mobilized equipment today because I planned this visit,” he commented.

Wike asked the director of Engineering Services , Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Johanna to extract a commitment from the construction company regarding the new completion date.

He demanded a detailed work plan from CGC, emphasising the project’s significance for both the FCT administration and residents.

“This road is crucial for reducing traffic congestion and boosting economic activity in the area. It is vital for us to be out here, inspecting the work, rather than just sitting in the office reviewing reports,” he said.
