From Everest Ezihe, Owerri

Worried by threat of unleashing security instability by group claiming to be Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB during the 2024 Independence Day celebrations, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has collaborated with other security agencies to implement a comprehensive security strategy across all 27 Local Government Areas.

ASP Henry Okoye the Command’s spokesperson in a press statement informed that the initiative is aimed at ensuring a safe and peaceful observance throughout the State.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO “as part of this strategy, joint patrols and confidence-building measures are actively underway. These operations are designed to deter criminal activities and reassure citizens that they can go about their daily lives without fear.

“In response to recent threats from the proscribed IPOB/ESN militia group, the Police Command has established robust security measures to address any potential risks. Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station or via 0803 477 3600, reinforcing our shared commitment to community safety” he assured.

Notable among those declared wanted are Simon Ekpa (factional leader of the group), Chika Edoziem, Egede Zuma, ThankGod Gentle, David Ezekwem Chidiebube, Mazi Peter Kelechi, Mathew David Ndubuisi, High Chief Williams Agbor, Ebuka Nwaka and Friday Ojimka, among others.
