The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Arc. Sonny Echono, has praised the significant role Nigerian diplomats have played in shaping policy and developing curricula for careers in Diplomacy and International Relations.
Speaking at the 2024 Annual Foreign Policy Lecture, hosted by the Association of Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria (ARCAN) in Abuja, Echono reaffirmed TETFund’s commitment to supporting their foreign policy journal.
While expressing gratitude to ARCAN members for their service to the country and contributions to educational development through their professional journal, Echono announced that, given the journal’s rich content, copies of the journal would be distributed to the libraries of all TETFund beneficiary institutions offering courses in International Relations and related disciplines.
“I am particularly glad that ARCAN extended the gesture of inviting us to be part of this event; and to underline our collaboration in ensuring that every department of International Relations, Political Science, and all students aspiring to make a career in Diplomacy or Foreign Service have access to quality journals and publications.
“That is why through TETFund’s Journal Intervention, we are going to ensure that every institution gets copies of this journal and subscribe to it,” he assured during the event organised as part of celebrations marking Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary.
He further added that digital copies of the journal would be available to users through TETFund’s Tertiary Education Research, Applications and Services (TERAS) platform.
The event’s guest speaker, President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), His Excellency Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, delivered a lecture on the theme, “Consolidating Democracy and Integration in ECOWAS: The Journey So Far.”
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, served as the Chairman of the occasion.
The lecture also brought together ambassadors, heads of missions in Nigeria, serving and retired diplomats, and other key figures in Nigerian diplomacy since Independence.
