Former governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in the last Ekiti State governorship election, Engr. Erelu Kemi Elebute Halle, was on Thursday formally welcomed into the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the party chairman, Umar Ganduje.
Mrs. Halle, who defected from ADP along with over 120,000 others, said she had realized that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu is real and that Nigeria will work under the current administration.
Ganduje had commended Engr. Halle and her supporters and assured that the new members will be carried along in all the activities of the party.
Speaking at the APC headquarters in Abuja, after her formal welcome to the party, she told journalists that one of the reasons for joining the APC is the ongoing reforms under the current administration of President Tinubu, even as she commended the Ekiti state governor Biodun Oyebanji for his role in bringing her to the APC.
“Due to my governor’s intervention I was able to make final decision on October 7, 2024, where we had it almost like a Congress in Ekiti State. On that day alone we had more than 7,000 men and women that defected to the APC.
“A lot of people across the six geopolitical zones, not only from the ADP where I contested but across all parties; From APP, ADP, AD, SDP, LP, PPA and PDP which I have had several meetings with them.
“In the North-east, North-west, North-central alone we have more than 70,000 people joining the APC with us while in the South-south and South-East, we have more than 50,000 people who are ready to be part of this Progressives moment. So it is like a face lift for the APC.
“We are joining APC to be a Progressives partner to Mr. President and his Renewed Hope Agenda and we believed that policies of the current government will work eventually.”
