Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi has directed personnel of the Corps to implement the mandate of the agency, stressing that the Corps will not rest on its oars to ensure that the directive of Mr President on the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure is carried out to the latter, according to a press statement from the National Publiç Relations Officer, CSC Afolabi Babawale over the weekend.
The CG who gave the charge in a keynote address delivered at the meeting of the Corps’ high command at the headquarters, maintained that such resilience had led to arrest of more than 20, 000 trailers used for vandalisation, control of illegal mining activities and resolve of over 500 cases between farmers and herders since the establishment of the Agro Rangers Department.
Reiterating that such commitment and dedication have also resulted in the destruction of over 350 illegal refineries and oil dumps in the country within the last three years, he emphasized: “We must vigorously implement the Corps mandate, and in doing so, you must be seen to work greatly to give instructions and monitor your subordinates.”
Further, he maintained, the Corps which is part of Nigeria’s security architecture is specifically to ensure protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) against vandalisation, regulate activities of Private Guard Companies, participate in disaster management amongst others, emphasizing that such duties must be in synergy with sister agencies.
Also, he called for improved surveillance and actionable intelligence, highlighting the need to develop counter-revolutionary action to confront advesaries. The CG explained that his administration places high premium on training and retraining of personnel adding that NSCDC training institutes have been resuscitated and all training curricular approved for all career development programmes which are mandatory for all personnel.
He pledged his administration’s determination to the upliftment of personnel welfare, and symbolically presented cheques to six next of kin of deceased personnel among the 150 being Group Personal Accident and Group Life insurance benefits of those who died and sustained injuries in line of duty amounting to
N2, 961, 857,736.83 billions.
Participants to the high command meeting were Deputy Commandants General, Assistant Commandants General and all Commandants in the Corps.
