APC forum apologizes to Matawalle over EFCC protest

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has issued a formal apology to the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, withdrawing its earlier protest and demands for an investigation into his tenure as the former Governor of Zamfara State.

During a press conference held on Friday in Abuja, the Forum’s spokesperson, Benjamin Yaksat, admitted that the group had been influenced by external interests.

Yaksat, who said the members of the group are not indigenes of Zamfara State, claimed they were sponsored by governor to protest against the Minister of State for Defence.

He further clarified that the latest press conference was organized independently by the Forum. “This press conference is sponsored by the All Progressive Forum, in case anyone suggests otherwise,” he added.

Yaksat disclosed that the Forum had expelled members responsible for leading the protest at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) office. According to him, a committee set up by the group found that financial inducements had driven the earlier protest.

“We have withdrawn our protest and will not engage in such actions again,” Yaksat said.

The Forum admitted that the allegations against Matawalle were baseless and motivated by personal interests, particularly frustrations over resource distribution.

“Unfortunately, greed clouded our judgment, leading us to make false accusations against Matawalle,” Yaksat confessed.

Speaking further, Ibrahim Muhammad, the Forum’s convener, commended Matawalle for his efforts in tackling insecurity in the northwest. He praised the minister’s leadership in the fight against banditry, acknowledging his contribution to regional stability.

“We commend Matawalle for his strategic leadership in the fight against banditry,” Muhammad remarked. “His efforts are crucial to Nigeria’s security, and we urge him to continue his work.”

The APC Forum urged its members to embrace integrity and pledged to focus on improving Zamfara State. They also expressed gratitude for Matawalle’s forgiveness.
