The Northern Senators’ Forum (NSF) is urging the Federal Government (FG) to quickly restore electricity supply in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states. Senator Abdulaziz Yar’adua, the forum’s chairman, made this appeal over the weekend, due to the dire situation caused by vandalism and national grid disturbances
The power outages, according to him have resulted in economic hardship, compromised healthcare delivery, and expensive fuel costs for citizens. Small businesses, he went on are struggling, and hospitals face increased running costs, impacting livelihoods.
Key demands by the Northern Senators’ Forum, include expedite and prioritize prioritize repairs on the Shiroro – Kaduna transmission lines for reliable power supply; enhance security, by implementing measures to prevent future vandalism and protect power infrastructure; support renewable energy, by supporting Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) initiatives on renewable energy and mini-grid solutions for sustainable power options.
However, the forum acknowledged progress in power distribution under the current administration but emphasizes the need for urgent attention to alleviate suffering and revitalize economic activities.
