Mr. Benneth C. Igwe, AIG zone 7 has blazed a progressive trail in policing and has since taken his well deserved place in his pantheon of Nigeria Police greats, to the acclaim of all genuinely motivated compatriots, his peers, his superiors and to the lamentations of criminally minded factors of criminality, regression and retrogression.
Perusing his illustrious pedigree and vast intellectual endowments, this amazing personality of history has added value to all the places that he was assigned to in the course of his illustrious public service career, specific to crime bursting, apprehending, interrogating all currents in the spectrum of crime and unpatriotic elements out to poach our commonwealth, endanger lives and properties and negatively impact the tenor of socio political disourse in the polity.
There are many fine police officers who have showcased and exhibited this peculiar patriotic traits in the discharge of their duties but what has set AIG Igwe apart is his understanding that for the fight for a crime-free society and one devoid of sleaze and financial malfeasance must be predicated on concrete foundations of compassion, social justice, equity and fair play.
The organizing principle of AIG Igwe is that all Nigerians should be treated with respect, compassion and understanding that no one, irrespective of status is above the law.
His tenure as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police left indelible marks on the collective psyche of indigenes and residents which informs the mixed signals that followed in the wake of his well deserved elevation to the post of Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 7.
It was a mixed feeling to see him go, given his incalculable inputs in sanitizing the security scenario in the FCT, the consolation was that
he was answering a higher call in respect of crime prevention and maintenance of law and order which is his forte.
History and posterity will not erase his meritorious inputs in decisive resolution of the contradictions in security handling which hitherto afflicts FCT security coverage, plus his efficacious tenure at the INTERPOL where he sufficed as a lightening rod to his peers and a beacon of pride and dependability to his superiors.
Remarkably, AIG Igwe has yielded pride of place to no one in the interpretation of governmental perspective of the administration to the Nigerian people and in consonance with the policies and targets devised by the apex leadership of the security apparatus of the Nigeria State.
AIG Igwe means business as he urges officers on police operational readiness as evidenced in his major term of operating procedure, which is simply, that officers under his command must be ready at all times to act promptly without warning.
