The North Central Youth Development Group has praised the efforts of Dr. Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, for his efforts that have yielded substantial progress in tackling security challenges across the North Central region and neighbouring areas.
In a statement on Tuesday, Alhaji Umar Abawa, the group’s state chairman, acknowledged the severe threat posed by banditry and other criminal activities to the safety of citizens. Despite ongoing security concerns, Abawa highlighted the significant progress made within the North Central region in countering these threats.
Abawa noted recent successes, particularly over the past few months, that have earned commendation for Dr. Matawalle.
“President Tinubu, through his substantial efforts, has commended Matawalle and has taken significant steps to ensure the safety of lives and property by increasing military operations, personnel, and resources to combat bandits in their strongholds. These efforts deserve recognition and have encouraged many of our people to return to their homes and farms.”
The chairman also remarked on the restoration of normalcy in states like Niger, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, and even the Federal Capital Territory, allowing residents to resume daily activities and rebuild their livelihoods.
“We are witnessing a reduction in attacks and kidnappings in many parts of our region, especially in Benue, Kogi, and other areas. We urge the military to intensify their operations in these regions and express our gratitude for their ongoing commitment,” he added.
The group further expressed appreciation to the National Security Adviser, Alhaji Nuhu Ribadu, for his support and the continuation of air and ground military operations targeting bandit enclaves in the eastern parts of the state.
Abawa expressed optimism about future progress, emphasizing that, with close collaboration between state governors, security stakeholders, and the federal government, the challenge of insecurity could be significantly reduced or potentially eliminated.
