Insecurity: Ohanaeze Youths urge South-East govs to convene youth security summit

The National Executive Committee of the Youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, led by Mazi Chukwuma Opkalaezeukwu, has raised alarm over increasing spate of violent crimes across the entire South-East in recent times and called on the South East governors to convene a security summit with the youths to strategize on how to curtail the ugly trend.

In a press statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Youths, Mazi Chika Art Adiele, made available to The AUTHORITY, the organisation lamented the killing of some personalities in Abia and Anambra states, including law enforcement officers on their legitimate duties, recently.

The press statement reads, “It is very unfortunate that, our people are no longer safe in their respective states as men of the underworld seems to have found a sweet heaven in our domain to maim citizens and members of the security personnels.

“As the Chief Security Officers of your respective states, it is pertinent to remind you that our people live in fear and most of them are unable to go out to do their lawful businesses as they are not sure they will return home safely. It is not just a matter of constitutional provision, but a moral obligation to stay eternally vigilant and deploy non kinetic approach to tackling insecurity which is capable of halting our economic trajectory,” Ohanaeze youths stated.

The group further lamented that even the law enforcement officers are not spared in the ugly development.Therefore the pertinent need for a security summit with the Youths.

The press statement reads further, “Last week, in Abia, somewhere around the boundary between Onuimo in Imo State and Amachara Umuahia, some military men paid the supreme price while doing their legitimate duty of securing our people and yesterday night again, a member of the House of Representatives, Hon Ginger Onwusibe(Isiala Ngwa North/South), escaped assassins bullets by the whiskers around Ubakala in Umuahia South Local Government , while a police man in his convoy lost his life in that unfortunate incident.

“The same day in Abatete, Anambra state, there was another orgy of bloody shootings and on Monday around Ukpor roundabout, gun men were on rampage, burning down vehicles and destroying properties.

“We, therefore, reiterate our call on our Governors to immediately convene South East Youth Security Roundtable dialogue with a view of proffering lasting solutions to these incessant destruction of lives and properties of our people,So that peace and prosperity may reign supreme.”
