Opposition lawmakers raise alarm over plot to weaken PDP

By Mercy Aikoye

Opposition Coalition lawmakers have raised an alarm over an alleged plot by some PDP governors and National Working Committee (NWC) members to keep Umar Damagun in office until 2027. This move, according to the lawmakers, is aimed at weakening the PDP.

The spokesperson for the Opposition Coalition, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, revealed that 24 PDP state chairmen have been planted to endorse President Tinubu before 2027. Ugochinyere described these individuals as impostors, vowing that their plan will not succeed.

Ugochinyere emphasized that the PDP is supposed to be a vibrant opposition party, but instead, it has been hijacked by political charlatans. He lamented that the party’s national leaders are frolicking with APC leaders, undermining the party’s integrity.

The Opposition Coalition lawmakers accused some PDP governors of working with the APC to sabotage the PDP. Ugochinyere specifically mentioned that these governors are more interested in controlling their states than in strengthening the party.

Ugochinyere also condemned the alleged plot by Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, to seize Rivers State allocation and impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara. He described this move as a recipe for anarchy and vowed that it will not succeed.

The lawmakers warned that any attempt to seize Rivers State allocation would be a direct attack on the country’s federal system and constitutional governance. Ugochinyere advised President Bola Tinubu to be cautious in dealing with Wike, given his history of conflicts with others.

Ugochinyere expressed disappointment that some PDP governors who lost elections are now working to destroy the party. He commended some governors who have remained loyal to the party, despite the challenges.

The Opposition Coalition lawmakers reiterated their commitment to ensuring that the PDP remains a strong and vibrant opposition party. They vowed to resist any attempt to undermine the party’s integrity and sabotage its chances in future elections.
