The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has said more will be done to improve the welfare of women in the territory.
Minister of state for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud stated this during the first major African Economy, Women Entrepreneurship, and Finance Confidence, organised by ImpactHER and supported by US Department of Commerce, the African Union, and FCT Administration in Abuja, Wednesday.
She revealed that the Administration through targeted programs and partnerships had prioritised access to skills training, and mentorship platforms that will give the women an enabling environment to excel in their businesses.
A statement by Freda Ayideyan, Assistant Director Information, office of the minister, said the current FCTA leadership was collaborating with stakeholders to provide financial assistance for businesses that embrace sustainability in renewable energy, waste management, eco-agriculture, or environmentally conscious urban development.
She stated that the conference with the theme, “Igniting Africa’s Green Revolution: Equipping Women Entrepreneurs, as catalyst for sustainable Growth and Eco – Financing Solutions” embody the Administration’s shared vision of empowering women entrepreneurs.
According to her, the empowerment will lead the charge towards sustainable economic development while addressing the urgent environmental challenges.
She said the two-day conference was a call to action, and a reminder of the immense potential for green investment opportunities within the Federal Capital Territory.
In her words: “This conference embody our shared vision of empowering women entrepreneurs to lead the charge towards sustainable economic development while addressing the urgent environmental challenges of our time.
“We are committed to creating an enabling environment for women entrepreneurs, especially those in eco-friendly business.
“Women are the backbone of Africa’s informal economy. Still, we must go beyond recognition and equip them with the tools, resources, and opportunities to lead in the formal and green economies”
