Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has expressed his condolences following the passing of Hajia Rafatu Salami, a veteran journalist and National Treasurer of the International Press Institute (IPI Nigeria).
Salami, who was also an Assistant Director for Digital Media at the Voice of Nigeria (VON), passed away early Friday in Abuja.
In a statement signed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo extended his sympathy to Salami’s family, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the IPI, and the management of VON.
“As we mourn the passing of our sister and one of the outstanding female journalists in Nigeria, we are comforted by her legacy of remarkable achievements as a courageous professional and a caring mother, as well as her compassion for humanity, unwavering integrity, and dedication to public service,” Ododo stated.
The Governor offered prayers for the repose of her soul and asked for divine strength for her family to bear the loss.
Hajia Rafatu Salami, a native of Ihima in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, passed away at the age of 55.
