We’ll improve on successes of 2024, NCC boss, Maida promises

The Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice Chairman (CEO and EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Aminu Maida, has said that the Commission will strive to improve on its 2024 achievements during the new year.

He added that the Commission will provide coverage maps from crowd-sourced data that will show the performance of Mobile Network Operators (MNOs).

Information obtained from the official X handle of the Minister of Communications, Innovations and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, Tuesday, disclosed these.

The NCC boss stated that the aim of providing the coverage map is to enable users of mobile networks ascertain the most efficient network in their coverage area.

He added that NCC will focus on building its transparency, which will spring up a more robust and healthier competition in the industry.

“2025, I’m really optimistic. We are going to build on the small gains we made in 2024.

“Now that we have laid some of the necessary foundations, we are going to see a lot more transparency to help drive competition and service delivery amongst operators.

“Lastly, we are also going to be providing coverage maps towards the end of the year, from crowd-source data.

“This is not going to be simulated data. It is going to be actual performance data, which will show you what is the best network in your area.

“No longer will you need to ask the man or woman nearest to you. You can actually come to the NCC’s website and look at the data for yourself,” Maida stated.

A key milestone of the the NCC in 2024 was the implementation and completion of the Federal Government (FG) policy on the NIN-SIM linkage.

Equally is the designation of its infrastructure as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) through a Presidential Order issued on November 6, last year.

According to Maida, ”this provides a lot of opportunities for the digital economy and national security of the nation. It gives us a very strong foundation from a security perspective.”
