By Abbanobi -Eku Onyekachi, Abuja

The Nigerian Senate has issued a stern warning to the nominees for the Governing Boards of the North West Development Commission (NWDC) and the South East Development Commission (SEDC), urging them not to fail Nigerians. The warning was given on Monday during the Ad-Hoc Committee screening on regional development Commissions, chaired by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

The Senate cautioned the nominees, who were appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to justify the trust reposed in them by Nigerians. The nominees for the NWDC, led by Alhaji Lawal Samai’la Abdullahi as Chairman, and Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, were the first to face screening.

Other nominees for the NWDC include:
Dr. Yahaya Umar Namahe, Hon. Aminu Suleiman, Ja’afar Abubakar Sadeeq, Yahaya Aminu Abdullahi, Hon. Engr Muhammad Ali Wudil, Shamsu Sule, Nasidi Ali, Chukwu Chijtoke, Ahmed Mohammed, Engr. Ahmed Rufai Timasantyu and, Macdonalds Michael Uyi.

The Senate’s warning emphasizes the importance of accountability and transparency in the governance of these development commissions.
