Senate President Godswill Akpabio has emphasized the importance of collaboration and unity among African nations.
The Senate President made the call on Monday while addressing the National Assembly of Cote d’Ivoire.
Speaking at the opening session of the 2025 First Ordinary Session of the National Assembly of Cote d’Ivoire in Abidjan, Akpabio stressed that African countries must work together to achieve progress and development.
Akpabio’s address, titled “Strengthening Ties, Building the Future Together,” highlighted the significance of strengthening bilateral ties between Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire. He noted that the two countries are not just neighbors but partners in the pursuit of African progress. Akpabio urged the Ivoirien lawmakers to recognize the importance of their role in shaping the future of West Africa, emphasizing that: “The future of west Africa rests upon us.”
As the Senate President of Nigeria, Akpabio brings a wealth of experience to the table. Prior to his current role, he served as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2007 to 2015 and as the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs from 2019 to 2022 ¹. His leadership experience and passion for African unity make him an ideal advocate for collaboration among African nations.
Akpabio’s call for parliamentary collaboration and unity is particularly relevant in today’s global landscape. As African nations face common challenges such as climate change, poverty, and inequality, it is essential that they work together to find solutions. By strengthening bilateral ties and fostering a sense of African unity, nations can pool their resources, share knowledge, and coordinate efforts to achieve sustainable development.
The Senate President’s address also underscores the importance of regional cooperation in achieving African progress. As Akpabio noted, “the future of west Africa rests upon us.” This statement emphasizes the need for regional leaders to take ownership of their development agenda and work together to address common challenges.
In conclusion, Akpabio’s address to the Ivoirien Parliament highlights the critical need for parliamentary collaboration and unity among African nations. As the Senate President of Nigeria, he is well-positioned to champion this cause and inspire regional leaders to work together towards a brighter future for Africa.
