President Bola Tinubu has so far spent over fifty billion naira on execution of some projects in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike disclosed this on Wednesday, during the inauguration of Paikon -Kore – Ibwa road.
He said since inception of Tinubu’s administration within one year, N8.5 billion had been spent on the completed nine kilometre road, N 22 billion on the ongoing Gwagwalada – market- FRCN, Aguma road.
Wike also revealed that the administration spent N16.5 billion on construction and renovation of the School for the Gifted, Gwagwalada, Government Secondary School, Gwagwalada, Government Secondary School, Giri, Government Science Secondary School, Tungan-Maje and Government Secondary school, Anagada
He said the administration is currently Constructing two police stations at different locations still in Gwagwalada Area Council which is least expenditure in an area council, gulping over fifty billion naira.
The minister explained that the projects are indication of President Tinubu’s commitment to the well-being of Abuja people, especially those in rural areas.
On the request for the construction of Ibwa bridge by the chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Abubakar Giri, Wike directed the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) to capture the project in the 2025 statutory budget.
Wike said, “It is important, you know the importance that Mr. President attaches to the development of the satellite towns. The President is not only committed to the development of the city, but is also committed to the development of the satellite town.
“The President came on board in May 2023, just within one year, Gwagwalada area council alone, not all the area councils, Mr. President committed 8.5 billion naira to construct this road, Paikon – Kore -Ibwa.
“So, when you ask, what has Mr. President done? In Aguma palace road, Mr. President has committed 22 billion naira, and that road will be commissioned in May this year.
“We have completed and we are still renovating, five secondary schools in Gwagwalada. The School For The Gifted Gwagwalada, Government Secondary School Gwagwalada, GSS Anagada, GSS Tungan Maje, GSS Giri. The total value for these projects is 16.5 billion naira.
“Now, if you calculate this total amount, I have not added the total of police divisions that we are building in Gwagwalada. As we speak now, in order to enhance security of this area.
Now, if you add the total value of what Mr. President has committed to Gwagwalada alone, you are talking about over 50 billion naira for one area council. Now, if you add the six area councils, just take this as the base because this is the least of all the area councils. So, you will see that in a year, Mr. President has committed to the development of satellite towns, not less than 300 billion naira”
The chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Abubakar Giri, represented by his vice Saidu Zuba, commanded the minister of FCT for considering the residents, he appealed to the minister to continue to do more for the community.
