CNG mourns Adebanjo, Clark, condoles with Afenifere, PANDEF

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has extended its condolences to Afenifere, the Yoruba socio-cultural organization, and the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) over the passing of two elder statesmen, Pa Ayo Adebanjo and Edwin Clark.

Pa Adebanjo, a prominent Afenifere chieftain, passed away at the age of 96, while Clark, a towering figure in Nigerian politics and the leader of PANDEF, died at 97.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, CNG’s National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, described Adebanjo as a political stalwart dedicated to equity, justice, and the advancement of his people within a united Nigeria.

“His unwavering commitment to these ideals, even in his final moments, serves as an enduring inspiration to all Nigerians of different ethnic stocks and nationalities,” the statement read.

On Clark’s passing, Charanchi emphasized his influential role in mediating peace in the Niger Delta region and advocating for his people’s interests amid the country’s political and socio-economic challenges.

“Despite often taking different positions on national issues, the CNG recognizes both leaders as compatriots who stood firm for their respective peoples and strived tirelessly to protect their interests in Nigeria,” the statement continued.

Charanchi noted that Adebanjo and Clark played pivotal roles in national discourse, leaving behind legacies of service, courage, and principled leadership.

“Their legacies will forever remain etched in the annals of our nation’s history. The CNG recognizes the profound loss this represents to the Yoruba nation, the Niger Delta, and indeed, the entire country,” the statement said.

Expressing solidarity with the families of both leaders, CNG prayed for strength for their loved ones and eternal rest for the departed statesmen.
“May their legacies continue to inspire generations to come, and may their visions for a just, equitable, and prosperous Nigeria never be forgotten,” the statement added.
