Supreme Court to determine PDP Nat’l Secretary March 10

By Our Reporter

The Supreme Court on Tuesday fixed March 10 this year to determine who is the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The ruling granted the application by the National Secretary of the Party, Samuel Anyanwu for accelerated hearing of the case.

It will be recalled that Anyanwu was removed as National Secretary of PDP by the Court of Appeal Enugu which declared Ude-Okoye as the secretary of the Party.

Dissatisfied, Anyanwu approached the apex court to set aside the judgement of the two lower courts and recognize him as the authentic National Secretary of the PDP.

He also filed a motion for accelerated hearing as well as an abridgement of time on grounds of the crucial role of the office of the National Secretary.

While ruling in the motion, the apex court granted the application and ordered service of the court processes on the respondent, Mr Aniagu Emmanuel, who must file his reply brief within three days of service.

Anyanwu, on the other hand, was given two days to reply on point of law.

However, the court granted Motion for accelerated hearing as requested by Anyanwu and adjourned the matter to 10th of March, 2025 for hearing and final verdict.

Reacting to the development, a PDP Chieftain and governorship candidate in the 2023 general election, Otumba Segun Sowunmi who spoke with The AUTHORITY, praised the wisdom of the apex court in making such decision and forging a new path for the party.

He said, “I want to thank the eminent judges, my lord, of the Supreme Court for giving us a date that is not so far off to expeditiously listen to the case and to the matter before then. I am hopeful that the speedy pronouncement on this matter will help the People’s Democratic Party to anchor and hopefully stabilize towards the future.

“It is early in the day to interpret what this little activity and the pronouncement that is coming out, what it really means.

“The only thing that a decent party man can be thankful for, is that the end date to the entire shenanigans is now here”.

The PDP has recognized Ude-Okoye as the new National Secretary of the Party, a decision Anyanwu is challenging at the highest court of the land.
