Kogi First Lady urges community support for widows,  distributes aid to 500 women

Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, the First Lady of Kogi State, has called for greater societal support for widows and the elderly, emphasizing that they should not be left without assistance.

During an empowerment event at the Government House in Lokoja, Mrs. Ododo provided aid packages—including rice, clothing, and cash—to 500 widows from the state’s 21 local government areas.

A statement released by the First Lady’s Media Office on Sunday quoteed her as saying  “Widows and the elderly are valuable members of our society, and we must not neglect them. Their economic stability is crucial not just for their survival but for the overall growth of our nation.”

Mrs. Ododo urged political leaders and private individuals to contribute to the welfare of widows, stressing that the government alone cannot meet all their needs.

“We all have a role to play in ensuring widows are empowered through job opportunities and business support. With the right assistance, they can become self-sufficient and contribute meaningfully to society,” she said.

Reiterating her commitment to supporting vulnerable populations, the First Lady assured that her office would remain a pillar of support.

“My doors remain open at all times to provide assistance. We will keep working to alleviate their burdens and create opportunities for a better future,” she pledged.
