Matawalle playing vital role in Tinubu’s security strategy, says Arewa forum

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has become a key figure in President Bola Tinubu’s government, actively driving the administration’s security agenda, the Arewa Think Tank Forum has said.

In a statement made available to newsmen, the group’s convener, Alhaji Abdul Malik, commended Matawalle for his dedication to the “Renewed Hope” initiative.

He highlighted the minister’s work in strengthening military operations, enhancing intelligence capabilities, and promoting cooperation between security agencies.

Recall that since assuming office, Matawalle has championed policies aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security framework, with a particular focus on proactive measures to combat terrorism, banditry, and other security threats.

One of his key achievements has been advocating for improved welfare and capacity-building programs for military personnel.

The statement said he has also pushed for better equipment, training, and operational strategies, reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces in tackling insecurity.

Malik said Matawalle’s experience as a former governor of Zamfara State—a region plagued by security challenges—positions him well to navigate Nigeria’s complex security landscape.

According to him, during his tenure, he employed both dialogue-driven and military-backed strategies to combat banditry, an approach that aligns with Tinubu’s broader security strategy.

President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda prioritizes national security as a foundation for economic growth and stability. With Matawalle at the forefront, the administration aims to implement policies that not only bolster military capabilities but also address the root causes of insecurity, including poverty and unemployment.
