Ramadan: Scholars stress obedience, adherence to Islamic teachings Ramadan

Some Muslim scholars, on Monday, stressed the culture of obedience to Allah and adherence to the Islamic teachings as ways to live above board in today’s uncertainty-prone society.

The scholars, Chief Imam Lagos State House of Assembly, Dr Abdulateef Abdulhakeem, Prof. Mahfuz Adebola-Adedimeji, Pioneer Vice Chancellor, African School of Economics, Abuja and Chairman, LASU Muslim Community, Prof. Babatunde Yusuf.

Guest at the 18th Lagos State University (LASU) Muslim Community and Professor I.A.B Balogun Foundation Annual Ramadan Lecture, prescribed total submission to Allah for a better society.

The session, featured Quran recitation and two lectures with themes: “Preserving the Muslim Identity in Challenging Time: A Guide to Spiritual and Social Resilience” and

“Islamic Panacea for Socio-Economic Development and Nation Building in Time of Adversity”

Held at the LASU Ojo Main campus, attended by students and others, was to rekindle faithful hope in Allah and chart workable solution to social deformities.

Abdulhakeem, said that, being conscious of Allah and adherence to His commandments was reason for the Ramadan period, aside that the fasting is useless.

He described challenging times as a period when evil things engulfed the society just as the present times in the society.

According to him bad things subsists because people have offended, disobeyed and remain ingratitude to Allah.

“Allah also warn us in Quran chapter 30 verse 1 evil has come earth because of the deeds of human.

“We are challenged by the menace of the social media and others in such a way that anxieties and uncertainties becomes the lot of humanity those are signs that Allah is annoyed with humanity and allowed those pestilence to ravage man.

“We need to up our game as Muslims and maintain our identity as faithful to be insulated from the crisis of the world and remain faithful and gratitude to Allah for Him to replace troubles with social harmony.

He described Nigeria as the best country in the world, with happenings of natural disasters and extreme weather conditions around the world Nigeria has not experienced any, therefore people should be grateful to Allah and adhere to His commandments in order to retain His blessings.

Adedimeji, the second lecturer, who dwelled on leadership and governance, said that nothing was wrong with the physical earth created by Allah but the trouble was in humans living on earth.

“Both the followers and leaders have obligations to make the society better as a faithful begin with your family exhibit those values worthy of a Muslim such as piety, hardwork before reward for the family members to internalise.

“We are in the age of innovation to combat challenges the trait of deligency toward achieving desired goals should inspired on the younger generation for on their shoulder rests human sustainability,” he said.

The lecturer, urged people to participate in public leadership process in order to enthrone better leaders and make informed inputs at governance through representatives.

He added that, in time of adversity such as this, faithful were expected to look inward pool resources, create a revolving scheme to execute pro-life projects where the state lagged and better the lives of people.

“Islam is known for communal living that trait is novel and should be rekindled in the society for even growth and development. Security has been of concern recently. It is our obligation to work in tandem with the state to ensure a secured society that encourages both domestic and foreign investments.

Chairman LASU Muslim Community, Prof. Babatunde Yusuf, said that, the community, a pro-society group would continue to employ every available means to chart better ways of making the society work.

“Allah has blessed us with seeing another Holy week of Ramadan, it is let for us to positively affect others lives and leave the earth better than we met it,”
