The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petition has threatened to issue an arrest warrant for the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Dauda. This decision was made after Dauda failed to appear before the committee to explain his role in an alleged breach of the building code in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The committee, chaired by Hon. Irom Michael Etaba, expressed its resolve to address the matter promptly. Etaba questioned why Dauda, who is based in Abuja, chose not to attend the hearing.
The committee’s position followed the adoption of a petition filed by Elder Leke Abejide, Chairman of the House Committee on Customs. The petition concerns plot AO9399 in the Cadastral Zone.
According to the petition, the development on the property contravenes the FCT’s building code. Counsel to Abejide, Mr. Samuel Ajayi, stated that a similar petition was filed with the offices of the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, and the Director of the Department of Development Control, Muktar Galadima.
Ajayi explained that the petition seeks the swift intervention of the Chairman to address the development on the property, which allegedly trespasses on his client’s rights.
The committee has given Dauda an ultimatum to appear before it on Thursday to provide his side of the story. Failure to comply may result in an arrest warrant being issued.
The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petition is determined to investigate the alleged breach of the building code and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
The outcome of the investigation and any subsequent actions will be closely monitored to ensure that justice is served and the rights of all parties involved are protected.
