Governor Idris felicitates with NUJ, FRCN at anniversaries

Comrade Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has congratulated Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria ( FRCN) on their anniversary celebrations as he extolled the significant impact being made by the media industry in the sustainability of the nation’s democratic governance.
The Nigerian Union of Journalists marked its 70th anniversary on the 15th March 2025 while the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria celebrates its 63rd anniversary on the 17th of the same month.
In a separate goodwill messages to the leadership of the two organisations, signed by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy Abdullahi Idris Sadaukin Zuru, Comrade Governor Kauran Gwandu noted with satisfaction and appreciation, the significant role being played by the media industry and
practitioners in ensuring the steady growth and people’s oriented democratic governance in Nigeria since the advent of the present democratic dispensation in 1999.
The Governor underscores the dogedness of the NUJ has with dogedness in shaping the media industry and insisting on press freedom which is vital in the practice of true democracy. According to him, that has been achieved with the active support of other stakeholders, including the Guild of Editors and Newspapers Proprietor’s of Nigeria.
Having achieved such milestone in the last seven decades despite the turbulence nature of the journey, Comrade Idris urged the practitioners to remain resolute in championing the course of press freedom, upholding ethical journalism, improved welfare and conducive working environment for the members of the union.
As an accomplished unionist, true democrat and advocate of transparency and accountability in governance, Comrade Kauran Gwandu pledged his administration’s support to the union in facilitating the success of its valuable programmes, particularly on capacity building and technological expertise in line with the international best practices.
Comrade Governor Kauran Gwandu used the occasion to commend the working journalists in Kebbi State for giving adequate publicity to the moderate, remarkable and indeed unprecedented socio-economic development achieved by his administration within two years.
The Governor also congratulated the management and staff of Federal Radio Corporation, Kaduna for the attainment of 63 years of productive and highly efficient service to the country.
He praised the present and previous managements of the Radio Station for jealousy not only maintaining but also sustaining one of the few out of numerous legacies of the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto.
Comrade Governor Idris noted that the station has, through it’s wider transmission, significantly contributed to the peaceful coexistence,enthronement and sustained practice of true democracy, socio-economic and political development in Nigeria, particularly in Northern Nigeria.
Established in 1962 as Broadcasting Company of Northern Nigeria (BCNN), upgraded to Radio Television Kaduna (RTK) and was later transformed to Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) in 1978.
