The Rector of the Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH) Dr Abiodun Oluseye, yesterday charged newly admitted students of the school to strive for excellence performance in their academic pursuit and discard with indulgence in unapproved groups, association such cultism to make headway in life.
Oluseye, gave the charge at the institute’s 19th edition matriculation for the 2024/2025 Academic Session held at the school.
The matriculation, the second the rector would supervised as the boss of the school since he assumed office featured the induction of 3353 students and 1592 into the National Diploma and Higher National Diploma respectively.
The rector, addressing the students said that, matriculation was a formal academic tradition through which newly admitted students in an institution of learning were officially inducted into the global body of knowledge seekers.
According to him the implication of this in context is that the ceremony qualifies you both as a student of the institute and entitles you to claim the studentship title and all its privileges anywhere in the world.
” I want you to be appreciative to God and your parents or guardians as the case may be and indeed congratulate yourselves on this no mean feat. Know that thousands are out there waiting to have the opportunity you now have.
“I therefore, advise you to gurard both your admission and studentship jealously and indeed with all diligence in learning and character. As a privileged students, your attitude, behaviour and general comportment must reflect a significant level of sensitivity to the unique opportunity which you now have.
” This requires a high sense of discipline in your study, and the determination to abide by the rules and regulations of the Institution. Please, I implore you all to shun acts that are capable of jeopardising your studentship in the Institution.
“Let me also remind you to avoid whatever is capable of tarnishing your parents’ good name and the Polytechnic’s corporate image. Your parents’ name took them years to build. The Institution’’s reputable corporate image also has also taken years and sweats to build. You will be wise and reasonable not to join any association or group which is not recognised by the Institute,” he said.
He asked the students not to be distracted from their primary aim in the Institute which he said was knowledge acquisition that could make life meaningfully and impact your world positively.
He added that striving for excellence throughout your stay in the institution in academics, innovations, sports, entrepreneurial skills, entertainment and creativity among others must be your objective.
He noted that the sets before you have consistently upheld the culture of excellence, therefore you cannot afford to under-perform.
Ogun State JAMB Coordinator, Mr Hakeem Abdulhameed, guest at the event, extolled the institution’s effort in implementing the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPs), a system designed to automate and streamline admission process into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Abdulhameed emphasized the importance of CAPs in the admission regulations, said that OGITECH has been complying with the regulations.
