The Northern Senators Forum (NSF) has strongly condemned the recent attacks on five communities in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, resulting in approximately 50 deaths, with many more injured and missing.
Chairman of the NSF, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua in a press statement on Monday, expressed deep sorrow and commiserated with the families of the victims, the Plateau State Government, and the people of Plateau State, describing them as a stark reminder of Nigeria’s insecurity.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s efforts to restore calm and prevent retaliation between ethnic groups were commended, with his leadership called a “beacon of hope.” The forum renewed its commitment to working with the government and security agencies to develop a robust security framework protecting Nigerian citizens.
Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, was appointed the Chairman of the Forum in March 2024 after Senator Abdul Ningi’s suspension. As an All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker, Yar’Adua has been vocal on Nigeria’s security issues.
The NSF however urged Nigerians to unite in building a safer future, emphasizing the need for decisive action to prevent similar incidents, just as it expressed thoughts and prayers with the victims’ families.
Recalled that the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) also condemned the attacks, calling for a reassessment of security strategies. The Northern Governors’ Forum also condemned the Christmas Eve attacks, which led to several innocent deaths in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi communities.
