Former Senate President David Mark, has strongly condemned the recent attack on Otobi-Akpa, Emichi in Otukpo Local Government Area and Utonkon in Ado Local Government Area of Benue state. In a press statement issued by Paul Mumeh, Special Adviser to the ex-Senator President, the attack, suspected to be carried out by Fulani herdsmen, resulted in the deaths of at least 15 persons.
Senator Mark expressed his deep worry over the incessant attacks in the area, which have led to numerous deaths and destruction of properties. He emphasized that the situation in parts of Benue state can no longer be considered ordinary or accidental, but rather an organized and premeditated action.
While condemning the attack in strong terms and stating that enough is enough, he tasked security operatives to rise to the challenge and arrest the perpetrators, bringing them to justice forthwith.
The former Senate President therefore suggested that communities should organize themselves into vigilante groups to halt further invasions, even as he emphasized the need to differentiate between legitimate residents and invaders while accommodating others in their communities.
Urging the people to remain calm and cooperate with security operatives in restoring peace and order in the troubled communities, Senator David Mark commiserated with the families of the victims and prayed for the eternal rest of the deceased.
