Why I urge Soludo’s reelection in Anambra — Hon. Nnabuife

In this piece, from our correspondent, Abbanobi-Eku Onyekachi at the recently marked Earth Day 2025 in Anambra, Princess Chinwe Nnabuife, the Adadioramma of Orumba, who represents Orumba North/South Federal Constituency of the State at the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja says she calls for Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s reelection due to among others, his fight against environmental hazards in the state. The Adaejiejemba of Umnuze believes that combined efforts of traditional rulers and other stakeholders to fight the menace being caused by the environmental hazards will go a long way. Excerpts.

Qtn: Can we have your take on this yearly marked Earth Day 2025Ans: As we mark Earth Day 2025, we are reminded that the earth is not just our home, but our heritage, responsibility, and legacy. Today, I call on every heart in Anambra State and beyond to rise with purpose, with compassion, and with urgency to restore what nature has gifted us and what negligence has eroded.Qtn: Anambra State devoted a lot time and energy, marking this international event, what is so special about it?

Ans: Across our beloved Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, communities like Oko, Nanka, Ufuma, and many others are confronted with a deepening environmental crisis. Gully erosion has torn through our farmlands, devoured our roads, and displaced thousands of our people. These scars in the land reflect a larger cry, a cry for healing, for responsibility, for action.Qtn: Can you briefly tell us the number of the affected communities in the state?Ans: More than 160 out of 179 communities in Anambra State are grappling with this menace, with over 100,000 residents displaced and critical infrastructure destroyed. The reasons are clear: vulnerable geology, deforestation, unplanned land use, and climate change have all converged to test our resilience.Qtn: Am I right to tell you that your governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo isn’t doing enough in that direction as the chief security of the state?
No! You aren’t. May be you haven’t been following  trend of events.

But in this challenge lies a remarkable opportunity. Under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, Anambra State is boldly rising to meet this challenge. His administration has made unprecedented strides through the creation of the Anambra State Erosion, Watershed and Climate Change Agency (ANSEWCCA), a strategic body leading efforts in erosion control, reforestation, and sustainable land use.Qtn: It looks like you are singing praises for him. However, in which other areas has he been impacting people’s  life in the state?

Ans: I am not singi prais s for anyone, but I am saying what is on the ground in the state. Governor Soludo has not only invested in environmental renewal, he has done so while maintaining fiscal responsibility, achieving extraordinary development milestones without borrowing. His emphasis on youth empowerment, agriculture, health, and security has transformed our state into a beacon of hope. His works are not only laudable, but also legacy-defining, and they call for continuity.Qtn: Although, some people, especially his supporters are calling for his reelection, but some are seriously campaigning against this reelection?
Ans: Look, in full alignment with this transformative vision, I, Hon. Princess Chinwe Nnabuife, the Adaejiejemba of Orumba proudly stand in support of Soludo’s reflection. His leadership is not only needed, but essential for the future we envision. Together, we are building a state that values its people, protects its environment, and prepares its future generations to thrive.Qtn: What will be your message to Ndi Orumba and Ndi Anambra, with regard to the menace being cause by environmental hazards in the state?

Ans: On this Earth Day, I reaffirm my unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainable development, and community-driven transformation.

I call on traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, and every resident of Orumba and Anambra State to rise with one voice and one purpose. Let us: plant trees where erosion has carved gullies; raise awareness where ignorance has sown neglect and; build hope where the earth has crumbled. Together, we can restore our lands, reclaim our future, and ensure that generations unborn inherit not our mistakes, but our resolve, our resilience, and our love for this land.
