Former Labour Party presidential candidate and ex-Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has voiced strong concern over the technical malfunction that disrupted the release of results by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), impacting approximately 380,000 candidates.
In a statement titled “When Glitches Become a National Crisis,” on Thursday, Obi commended JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, for taking responsibility and offering an apology, describing the move as “commendable.”
However, he emphasized that the incident points to a broader systemic weakness within Nigeria’s public institutions.
Obi highlighted the emotional distress caused to students and families, noting that the situation had reportedly led to severe psychological trauma and even the loss of life.
“Such failures are not minor mishaps. They shake the very foundations of trust in our public institutions,” he stated.
He urged JAMB and other similar agencies to implement strict quality control measures, including continuous evaluation of technical systems, clear and honest communication with the public, and swift problem-solving mechanisms.
“There must be no room for further glitches — not in JAMB, not in any arm of government. The cost of repeated failure is simply too high,” Obi warned.
