The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike said arrangements are underway to introduce reforms that would change the phase of transportation in the national’s capital, Abuja.
He gave the indication on Friday, after inspecting Kugbo and Mabushi bus terminals, and the road leading to EFCC Academy at Giri.
Wike disclosed that a committee had already started work on reforms that would be introduced even before the inauguration of the bus terminals slated for next month.
The Minister said the initiative is part of security measures that will help in identifying those involved in doing taxi business.
He said his administration was doing everything possible to address issue of multiple motor parks scattered all over the Federal Capital Territory without proper profiling.
Wike commended the contractor for putting in his best, pledging to continue to support local contractors.
“I commend the local contractor, who has put in his best. We will continue to support them, so that we can get the best from Nigeria too. We are happy with what we have seen.
“Obviously, a lot of things will happen in the transport sector, there will be a lot of reforms. In fact, the committee is working, before we get to even commissioning, we will come up with our transport sector reforms.
“As part of security measures, we must know those who are involved in doing taxi business, and colour of the vehicle, so that if anything happens, we will be able to identify.
“This time around, we are working to see that we don’t have a lot of parks on the road. And that is what I told the contractor, what should be here is a bus and taxi, not just only bus terminals. So those who come to the bus terminals will board the taxis from there and go wherever they want to go” Wike said.
