The federal government has approved the construction of six bus terminals nationwide.
Minister of Transportation, Said Alkali gave the cheering news during the inauguration of the newly completed bus terminal at Mabushi in Abuja,Tuesday.
Alkali said President Bola Tinubu, recently granted approval for the building of the terminals in Abeokuta (Ogun state) in South West, Onitsha (Anambra state) South East and Warri (Delta state) South – South. Lokoja (Kogi State) in North Central;
Gombe (Gombe State) North East; and
Kano (Kano State) in North West.
The minister explained that it was the first time in the history of the country the federal government was investing such magnitude in the transport sector apart from rail and road.
Alkali said the choice of the places for the parks are influenced by strategic location, commercial viability and the need to boost economic growth and inclusive development through provision of a modern transport facility in the respective zones.
He commended Tinubu for prioritising the development of transportation as globally recognised enabler of economic growth and gateway to the nation’s economy.
On the completed terminals in Abuja, the minister appealed to all relevant stakeholders, especially leadership of various road transport unions to maximise the potential of the initiative through effective utilisation of the facility to encourage the government to do more for the welfare of the people and dignity of the road users as well as transport operators.
Alkali appreciated the Minister of FCT for the landmark achievement, and pledged support of the federal ministry of Transportation through collaborations to sustain the giant stride for national development and posterity.
Alkali said, “I am glad to say without fear of contradiction that this is the first time in the history of this country the federal government has made investment of this magnitude in the transport sector apart from rail and road.
“It is also appreciable to note that the choice of the places where such terminals are to be constructed are influenced by their strategic location, Commercial viability and the need to boost economic growth and inclusive development through provision of a modern transport facility in the respective zones.
“I once again appreciate the visionary leadership of the President not only for laying the foundation of the kind of project he is commissioning today, but for prioritising the development of transportation as globally recognised enabler of economic growth and gateway to the nation’s economy.
“The places are; Abeokuta (Ogun State) in South West;Onitsha (Anambra State) in South East;Warri (Delta State) in South-South; Lokoja (Kogi State) in North Central; Gombe (Gombe State) in North East; and
Kano (Kano State) in North West”
