Breakthrough for South East education: Tinubu signsBills for new universities

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given his assent to two landmark bills championed by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives,Hon. Benjamin Kalu, paving the way for the establishment of the Federal College of Education in Bende, Abia State, and the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Item, Bende, Abia State.

The President also signed into law a bill establishing a Federal University in Okigwe, Imo State, a move that is expected to boost educational opportunities in the South East region. These new institutions aim to provide high-quality education, foster research, and cater to the educational needs of the people.

The Federal College of Education in Bende will offer comprehensive programs in technology, applied sciences, commerce, arts, and management, while the University of Medical and Health Sciences will provide top-notch medical education and training, including undergraduate and graduate programs in various health-related fields.

Kalu, the driving force behind these bills, expressed his profound gratitude to President Tinubu for signing them into law. “The establishment of these institutions is a significant milestone in promoting education and development in our region,” he said, highlighting the benefits of the new institutions.

Kalu also appreciated the Senate, his colleagues in the House of Representatives, and the Nigerian people for their unwavering support. He urged the people of the South East to continue supporting the Tinubu-led government, promising more dividends of democracy.

“The institutions will provide quality education, research opportunities, and cater to the educational needs of the South East region,” Kalu emphasized, underscoring the positive impact of the new institutions on the region.

With the signing of the bills into law, the institutions are expected to become operational soon, providing opportunities for students in the region to access quality education and training.
