The Senate Committee on Customs has directed the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to generate N10 trillion in revenue for the 2025 financial year, exceeding the agency’s initial target of N6.584 trillion. The committee’s Chairman, Senator Isah Jibrin, commended the NCS for exceeding its 2024 revenue target of N5.079 trillion by over N1 trillion.
The NCS team, led by Deputy Comptroller General Jibo Bello, presented the 2025 budget proposal, which includes a revenue target of N6.584 trillion and an expenditure of N1.132 trillion. The committee unanimously approved the expenditure, with a directive to increase revenue generation to N10 trillion.
Senator Jibrin emphasized the need for the NCS to improve its surveillance capabilities to combat illicit drug trafficking and smuggling, just as the committee urged the NCS to reduce importation and promote the consumption of locally produced goods to conserve foreign exchange earnings and generate employment opportunities.
The increased revenue target and enhanced surveillance efforts are expected to contribute to the nation’s economic growth and development. By promoting local production and reducing importation, the NCS aims to boost employment opportunities and utilize idle raw materials.
