The theme of the workshop is “Think Before You Follow, Wise Money Tomorrow”, held at the Joshua Dariye’s Auditorium, Plateau State Polytechnic, Jos Campus.
Over 20 junior and senior secondary schools participated in the event which attracted more than 150 students.
Speaking while declaring the training open, the Plateau State Commissioner of Education,
Dr. Kachollom Gang, stated that in the complex world of nowadays, it is essential to have the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions regarding personal finances.
According to her, financial literacy begins now, and this early understanding will help students plan for a better future adding that this significant event provides an excellent opportunity to enhance financial literacy, starting with the younger generation.
“Sometimes, people who seem “poor” can actually be wealthier than those who appear rich because they know how to manage their finances. As you grow up, you will be better equipped to manage your resources as the leaders of tomorrow.
“It is important to understand that it is not about the amount of money, but about developing the habit of saving. No matter how small, consistent savings can grow over time and make a difference in one’s life.
She further stressed “Financial literacy is crucial because it empowers you to make informed decisions about savings, investments, and managing your finances. By equipping our students with these skills at an early age, we are shaping the economic future of our state and nation”.
The commissioner argued that, this aligns with the objectives of the National Financial Literacy and Inclusion Strategy by the Central Bank of Nigeria, which aims to promote financial inclusion and economic growth.
