Bayelsa govt’s timely Intervention in Ikebiri chieftaincy dispute praised

The Ikebiri elites have commended the Bayelsa State Government for its swift intervention in the recent chieftaincy tussle in the community. The government’s quick response, led by Governor Douye Diri, has been praised for demonstrating its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Ikebiri Kingdom.

Apostle Dr. Kiyaramo G. Timiebi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Ikebiri Development Foundation (IDF), noted that the proactive approach of Governor Diri showcases the government’s dedication to effective governance and community harmony. He urged the community’s leadership to prioritize peaceful coexistence among communities in the kingdom, emphasizing that peaceful communities are more attractive to investors and government agencies.

The Ikebiri elites highlighted the benefits of peaceful coexistence, including: Peaceful communities are more attractive to investors, organizations, and government agencies; Community members’ ability to take ownership of their development and well-being; Peaceful coexistence fosters a sense of unity and belonging among community members; abd Reduced conflict and violence*: Prioritizing peaceful coexistence can reduce the risk of conflict and violence.

The Ikebiri elites called on both parties to bury their hatchets and seek unity, oneness, forgiveness, and peace for the general development of the community. They emphasized the need for collaboration between government and communities for development, highlighting that peaceful coexistence enables community members to work together towards common goals.

The Bayelsa State Government’s intervention, led by the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has been praised for its effectiveness in resolving the issues that led to the purported suspension of HRH Francis Ododo Timi (Ike VIII). The government has set up a 12-member panel of inquiry, chaired by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo, to look into the immediate and remote issues and work towards finding a lasting solution.
