NEW ORDER: NYCN Gets New Leadership, Sokubo’s Era Ends!”

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has undergone a significant leadership shift. Amb. Sokubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo’s led national executive committee along side Solomon Adodo leadership was dissolved, and a National Transition Committee (NTC) was established for a 60-day tenure. Comrade Gbenga Adedamola, National Commander Man O, War was appointed Chairman of the NTC , tasked with steering the council during this transition period.

“The decision was made during an extraordinary management meeting, the council’s highest decision-making body, in a landmark gathering held on August 7, 2025, in Abuja.”

The meeting brought together critical stakeholders, including heads of voluntary youth organizations, former presidents, and government representatives.

The NYCN management has revealed a damning assessment of the council’s current state, citing scandals of alleged criminal forgery, constitutional tampering, and questionable affiliations. The management’s investigation has brought to light alarming allegations of doctoring provisions in the 2018 NYCN Constitution (as amended) to facilitate tenure elongation.

The purported de-affiliation and new affiliation of 180 organizations, as well as the increase in the age bracket from 18-35 to 18-45 years, have sparked intense debate within the youth constituency. The management’s lengthy deliberation on these contentious issues has culminated in a series of landmark resolutions aimed at addressing the council’s challenges.

“In a bold bid to restore stability and credibility, the NYCN management has taken decisive action, dissolving the crisis-ridden leadership structure and resolving to address the council’s constitutional and leadership issues. Stakeholders are now on high alert, eagerly watching to see how these landmark resolutions will be implemented and whether they will ultimately redefine the future of the NYCN.”

The meeting also resolved to retain the 2012 NYCN Constitution as the working document, while setting up a constitution review committee to ensure the council’s governance framework is robust and inclusive. This move is expected to bring stability and clarity to the council’s operations.

In a significant development, the meeting declared all exercises on affiliation, revalidation, and de-affiliation carried out at a purported Congress in Port Harcourt or elsewhere as null and void. The management reaffirmed the 104 member organizations and the 36 states and FCT, ensuring continuity and stability in the council’s operations.

The elective congress, initially scheduled for September 2025, has been rescheduled to October 7, 2025. This decision aims to ensure a smooth transition and credible electoral process.

The meeting passed a vote of confidence on Hon. Ayodele Olawande, Minister of Youth Development, for his commitment to youth development in Nigeria and the well-being of the NYCN. The management also applauded the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly the increase in the Nigerian Youth Investment Fund and the Student Loan Scheme.

Aluta News reports that these landmark resolutions mark a new chapter for the NYCN, with a renewed focus on youth development, good governance, and inclusivity. The council is poised to play a more significant role in shaping the future of Nigerian youth and contributing to the country’s development.
