President Bola Tinubu has joined other prominent leaders in mourning the death of Alhaji Ahmed MomohSani Alabi, father of Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.
In a condolence message, President Tinubu described the passing of the family patriarch as a painful loss. He urged Governor Ododo and his relatives to take comfort in “the enduring legacy of humility, service, and discipline left behind,” while praying for the peaceful repose of the deceased and strength for the bereaved family.
Vice President Kashim Shettima also commiserated with the Kogi governor, describing the loss as one that touches not just the family but the entire nation.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Usman Ododo over the sad demise of his father,” he said. Shettima hailed the late Alhaji Ahmed MomohSani as a devout Muslim and revered community leader whose values are evident in Governor Ododo’s commitment to public service.
“Alhaji Ahmed was a most committed family patriarch who endeared himself to many with his devotion to Islamic values and community service. His greatest legacy lies in the exemplary leadership qualities he instilled in Governor Ododo,” the Vice President noted. He acknowledged the difficulty of losing a parent while holding high office and expressed hope that the departed would find eternal rest.
The All Progressives Congress (APC), in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described the late Alhaji Ahmed as a man of discipline, service, and integrity who raised his son on sound values. The party prayed that Almighty Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus and comfort his family and the people of Kogi State.
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and the South-West Governors’ Forum also sent their condolences, describing the deceased as a man of honour whose life positively influenced his family and community.
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, Hon. Leke Abejide, Hon. Salman Idris, Rt. Hon. Matthew Kolawole, traditional rulers, political associates, and other leaders have likewise paid their respects, praising him for raising a son dedicated to service and development.
Governor Ododo, in a statement, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima, the NGF, other leaders, and Nigerians who have reached out during this period of grief. He said their prayers, visits, and words of encouragement have given his family strength.
While mourning the loss, the governor pledged to uphold his father’s legacy, stressing that his values would continue to guide his leadership.
Alhaji Ahmed MomohSani Alabi passed away on Monday at the age of 83.
